YG, the Compton rapper responsible for this low-riding DJ Mustard gem that helped me get through the frozen winter, is prepping his debut studio LP for Def Jam. It’s called My Krazy Life and it’s out next week. The album includes guest spots from Drake, Schoolboy Q, Rich Homie Quan, Ty Dolla $ign and Jay Rock, but today’s single features Kendrick Lamar. Really Be (Smokin N Drinkin) is, at least initially, mellow for YG: it opens with near-acapella rhymes, backed only by an occasional synth flicker and heavy breathing. Kendrick comes in around the halfway mark, employing a minimal whisper-growl, but still sounding amazingly wide-eyed manic. YG is fun, but Kendrick kind of makes you forget he’s even on the track.
