This year’s Moogfest in Asheville, NC, April 23-27, has gone way past analog fetishist cool to a holy crap!-factor to rival any fest this spring. A few months back, headliners were announced as Kraftwerk 3-D, M.I.A., Pet Shop Boys, Chic (ft. Nile Rodgers) and Flying Lotus. But they’ve since added Dan Deacon, Laurie Anderson, LCD’s Gavin Russom, Mad Decent’s Dillon Francis, and Nick Zinner and Bradford Cox doing a live improvised installation. Plus, an extremely rare U.S. performance from the godfather of all things Moog-pop, Giorgio Moroder. There will be loads of daytime conferences too, detailing the creation, history and ever-inspiring utilization of the groundbreaking electronic instrument. And have we mentioned Futurama’s David X. Cohen will be talking about the math and science woven into Futurama and The Simpsons? Yup.
