Recently Yo La Tengo has been touring in support of its latest LP, Fade, released earlier this year via Matador. In the midst of the group’s worldwide tour, the band has just debuted its new animated music video for the album opener, “Ohm.” For fans of The Simpsons, the humor in the video may be familiar as the video was written and directed by Donick Cary whose writing credits include the iconic yellow-skinned sitcom. The video was animated by Sugarshack Animation and while its characters look more like normal people, there’s really nothing normal about this video.
The music video opens with the question “What is Yo La Tengo?” and takes a ChalkZone approach as a boy enters an alternate reality through a chalk board into a psychedelic world where the members of Yo La Tengo grow on trees and babies smoke cigars. The video even has complex mathematical equations with variables consisting of famous musicians for you calculus lovers. Watch the mind-bending video below.
