Funny Or Die has released a hilarious faux audition video that sees the Postal Service’s Jimmy Tamborello and a Sub Pop executive, played by comedian Jon Daly, hold auditions for Ben Gibbard’s job. The clip comes in support of the band’s 10th anniversary Give Up reissue, due out April 9 on Sub Pop.
The segment is set in 2002 and features the likes of Weird Al Yankovic, Blink 182’s Tom DeLonge, Aimee Mann, Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster, Helmet’s Page Hamilton, Foo Fighters and Sunny Day Real Estate bassist Nate Mendel and a very shirtless Moby. There’s also appearances from comedians Marc Maron and DC Pierson. The clip ends with Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie taking the role, and the rest is history.
The nearly nine-minute short was directed by music video director and Best Show On WFMU host Tom Scharpling and produced by Rob Hatch-Miller. Check out the clip below, as well as Postal Service tour dates here.
