The week before releasing his latest LP, Banks, effortlessly cool Interpol singer and solo artist Paul Banks graced CMJ Union with his unflappable stage presence, inscrutable lyrics, and, of course, his all-black attire. Luckily, the good folks over at KEXP were around to broadcast and film the set, and now the brief, charming performance has surfaced online.
Banks and his crack band played a mercurial, groove-heavy set that drew primarily from his recent album, including the achingly beautiful single, “The Base.” Though Banks dropped his Julian Plenti moniker for the new record, he wasn’t afraid to dip into his own back catalogue, playing “Games For Days” off 2009’s Julian Plenti is… Skyscraper.
