A ghostly chill hangs over every shrouded, mysterious frame of the video for Memory Tapes’ “Sheila,” an otherworldly electro-pop meets space-rock track from the band’s 2012 record, Grace/Confusion. The disorienting clip, directed by Garry Wood, follows a young woman—who I’m just going to assume is the Sheila of the title—as she falls from a balcony and presumably becomes some sort of wandering ghost or spirit.
It gets more confusing from there. As the video progresses Sheila stalks her backyard, applies makeup, goes for a walk in the woods and just kinda hangs around. Wood slathers all sorts of filters and photography tricks onto the footage, so it’s difficult to tell exactly what Sheila is up to the whole time, but that doesn’t make it any less compelling. Check it out below.

Memory Tapes will also be playing a handful of select East Coast tour dates in February, including a stop at Glasslands in Brooklyn and an appearance at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall. You can see those dates below.
