We haven’t heard much from Grass Widow recently, but here’s one reason why. GW bassist Hannah Lew has been busy nurturing her new brain-child, Cold Beat. The Bay Area foursome released its debut EP, Worms/Year 5772, today via Lew’s own label, Crime On The Moon. The EP sticks with Grass Widow’s renegade twee sound and mashes it up with pounding percussion and a few wacky vocal samples. Aside from two original songs, the EP features track remixes from POW! and Mikey Young of Total Control. Talk about cool friends.
Along with that release, the band has also shared a visual for album cut Worms. It’s a totally fun, nearly colorless montage of doo-wop dancing and hazy ocean scenery. Shot by Mike Stoltz, the clip also includes hand-painted animation from Lew. Watch the video, scope Cold Beat’s tour dates, and stream all of the EP (via Rookie) below.
