Any image you might have of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia might not include the kind of chipper, smiling funtimes you’ll see in this brand new Alvvays (pronounced ȯl-wēz) clip. No doubt the echoey edges on these Nova Scotians’ sound emit some cloudy memories. And while the graininess and faded hues of this vid are all 1976-ish, the sound is quite now-times peppy, echo-jangle indie pop, with some rougher than initially noticed drum/bass drive. Or wait, maybe it’s 1986 New Zealand? 1991 UK? 2008 What’s Your Rupture? Ahhhh, everything’s swishing together! Eh, it’s a cold Friday in November—sit back and enjoy the sunny summer vibe of this clip, below.
The tune, along with Archie, Marry Me, will be out as a single in early 2014, with their debut self-titled album, produced by Chad Vangaalen, not long after that. Check their tour dates too, and maybe you can get to their show and ask them what’s their favorite musical year.
