Walkmen, Heaven, Walkmen Heaven, We Can't Be Beat, Fat Possum
The Walkmen got you a present for their 10th birthday. After headlining the opening night of the National’s Crossing Brooklyn Ferry festival on Thursday, the band is starting the week fresh by debuting “We Can’t Be Beat,” the leading track from its upcoming sixth LP, Heaven (pushed up from June 5 to May 29 on Fat Possum). Wasn’t that nice of them!
“We Can’t Be Beat” opens with some acoustic tenderness before building into one of the Walkmen’s usual triumphant choruses. If the track recalls the polished folk harmonies of Helplessness Blues, chock it up in part to Phil Ek, who produced Heaven along with recent releases from Fleet Foxes and the Shins.
Listen to the track below, and catch the Walkmen on tour this summer. The boys are hitching up with Florence Welch for a run of West Coast and Canadian dates, plus Lolla in August.
