Julia Holter, Goddess Eyes I
The last time we saw experimental multi-instrumentalist Julia Holter, she was looking solemn while making some sort of string maze in her video for “Our Sorrows.” In her latest video, she’s still looking solemn, but this time she’s doing it while standing in a window and also while wandering across a mountainous landscape. The new video accompanies her song “Goddess Eyes I,” another one from her sophomore album, Ekstasis.
Visual artist José Wolff, Holter’s video collaborator, maps out the video as going “from lightness to darkness, away from a structured, fabricated place and into raw territory.” There’s also a costume change, which suggests that as you step away from lightness into the dark, you must exchange your casual jeans and T-shirt for a more serious and ethereal white dress that is appropriately goddess-y.
