The London-based (or, according to Myspace, ☬ ☩ ♈ ✡ ☪ ☥ ☧ ✝ ☭ ☫-based) indie alt/electro-pop group Is Tropical has announced plans to invade the U.S. on its next tour. The tour stars October 16, two days before the band’s debut album, Native To, is set to be released on Kitsuné. After a couple of million hits on YouTube for the controversial video “The Greeks,” Is Tropical will be bringing its faceless antics to this year’s CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival in New York, as well as to dates in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and more. With a music video that appears to be from the perspective of young boys thinking, “What if these Nerf guns had real bullets and blood splattered everywhere with every Nerf dart?”, one can only imagine what an Is Tropical tour will have in store for fans. And, yes, “The Greeks” is just as cool as it sounds, complete with cartoon explosions and cartoon gun fire galore. It’s sort of like a clip from Die Hard…for kids!
But, we’re not the only ones excited for Is Tropical’s U.S. debut. Dom (from the band that shares his name) made his own shout-out on YouTube about it and is clearly excited about the news.
The band gained popularity back in early 2010 with its single “When O’ When/Seasick Mutiny.” More recently Is Tropical has released a cover of Tom Waits’ “Lie To Me” and a B-side to its track “South Pacific” called “Tan Man.” Just as strangely fun and weird as “The Greeks,” the video for “Tan Man” syncs the music with clips of Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen dancing.
