Travis Bretzer

Not sure anyone was waiting on a Gino Vannelli revival, but here you go. This new video for Promises from 24-year old Edmonton, Alberta, native Travis Bretzer visually and musically recalls the heady, early ’80s days of coke hangovers, friendly divorces and pleated pale blue khakis. Yacht rock doesn’t begin to describe it’s saccharine charms. I suppose we are a little beat down by the crawling recession, terrorism, Hot in Cleveland being cancelled, etc., so perhaps the level of white-flag hoisting here could be seen as understandable. Well, at the least it’s a warm breeze on this cold day.

Bretzer’s debut album, Waxing Romantic, out February 24 on Mexican Summer, is a major production bump-up from his formerly somewhat fuzzier sound, and includes help from friends like James Richardson (MGMT), Josh da Costa (Regal Degal) and members of Haunted Graffiti. And if they didn’t have Polo endorsement deals before, they’ll have them in time for spring. But for now, close your eyes and dream of beaches and flat wine coolers…
