Sometimes to go forward, one must peer back a bit. This Queens-based trio do just that on the song Promise that we’re premiering today. Taking their desperate loud sigh over too many dreamy indie bands afoot, they blow it all back out with a mournful wail of sludgy bass, big buzzy guitar and rumbling drums, harkening back to some Clinton-era rock glop, à la early Nirvana. Shoot, they even got Steve Albini to record it (in one take), along with another track for a self-released 7-inch that will come out next month. But the inviting hook, epic sweep and quick-strike efficiency are certainly not stuck in old sludge. Check out the song and a couple regional gigs below.
