Hey Anna feataures three sisters—Anna, Erin and Katie Rauch-Sassen—who’ve moved from California to Kansas to New Jersey. Then their two previous EPs got comped into an LP for a Japanese label (This Time Records), which had them getting to Tokyo for some shows last Novemeber. All that moving around seems to have given the band the ability to not get mired in the quirky folk-pop territory from whence they began. Plus the addition of lead guitarist Jamie DiTringo and Matthew Langner on drums has all bent the sisters’ inspirations into a mash of beach-frothed, dancey indie rock. Like this, the second track released from their upcoming debut album, Run Koko.
In Move Your Body, shifty rhythms match shifty vocal acrobatics in the verses that soon shift into a chorus that jumps out like a dune buggy off a sand dune. A Brooklyn sand dune, that is, as the band is currently based there and so present a crisp, angular head on it’s shifty body that feels like the city kids hopping the bus down to Coney Island.
Check the premiere of “Move Your Body” below, Run Koko comes self-released July 7 and look for some regional gigs announced soon.
