Toro Y Moi’s Chaz Bundick recently revealed the details regarding his upcoming album Anything In Return in a conversation with Interview Magazine. Although he was one of the pioneers of the recent “chillwave” trend, Bundick’s new record reportedly finds him turning his back on the genre he helped get off the ground and onto iPhones and blogs.
“I was trying to make a pop record,” Chaz explains in the interview. “Underground isn’t always relevant; I want to see what’s popular, then put my own spin on it.”
As a sign of his dedication to the album’s pop-factor, the newly revealed album art features pop-inspired cover art, a man with blue-toned skin contrasting the eye-popping red and yellow background, all surrounded by some squiggly lines. Very Warholian, Bundick. Check it out, below.
Anything In Return will be released January 22, 2013, so savor your last moments with “indie” Toro Y Moi by watching the video for “New Beat” off 2011’s Underneath The Pine.
