The London/Nairobi-based Owiny Sigoma Band recently teamed up with Theo Parrish to remix “Wires” from the collective’s upcoming self-titled LP. Released April 16 via Record Store Day, the remix encapsulates the Afro-beat European rock crossover that is the foundation of this project while pumping a slightly more body-rocking bass and chopped-up edits of the live break-beat drum-kit lines. Owiny Sigoma Band // Wires (Theo Parrish Remix) by Brownswood
The Owiny Sigoma Band album due out May 2 is the product of the London-based members traveling to Nairobi in 2009 and meeting Joseph Nyamungu and Charles Owoko. The jam sessions that followed reflected the union of western musical ideas and traditional Luo melody and rhythm—a sound that the project members knew would be worth putting down in the recording studio. The music incorporates various traditional Luo instruments like the nyatiti alongside western drum kit and electric bass. The Owiny Sigoma Band EPK Video can be viewed below.
