Xiu Xiu singer Jamie Stewart has announced a collaboration with artist J. Morrison on a t-shirt collection. The shirts will be custom-decorated, and as such they are limited edition. Interestingly, Stewart and Morrison are releasing the shirts on a subscription basis, one shirt a month for a year, then a bonus shirt at the end. Kind of like a single-of-the-month club, but for clothing.
Stewart fronts the San Jose, California-based art-rock band, which released its seventh LP, Dear God, I Hate Myself, last February and Morrison is a Brooklyn-based artist who specializes in clothing design and sexual imagery. This month’s shirt is Freddie Mercury themed, and costs around $25. Pricey, but hey, it’s a Freddie Mercury shirt! Plus there are cats—indie rock’s pet du jour—quite literally on the shirt.
