Whereas last year’s Taiwanese Music Festival focused on pop and rock-driven artists, this year’s showcase was more electronic and hip hop oriented. Queens-based Miss Ko brought her Golden Medley Award (The Taiwanese version of a Grammy) to the stage and spoke about breaking boundaries. Joanna Wang made wacky cartoon faces as she charged through pop tracks from her recent album Galaxy Crisis. But the biggest surprise of the night came from DJ Noodles, whose stellar spinning skills had the crowd writhing through strobe lights. She closed the night with a few collaborations with Brooklyn’s Rabbi Darkside.
