Nathan Williams recently said in a press release that the new Wavves album was centered on “depression and anxiety, being death-obsessed and paranoid of impending doom.” As you can tell from the newly posted album stream, courtesy of NPR’s First Listen, that darkness translates mostly to the lyrics on Afraid Of Heights, while the guitars remain jittery and upbeat. “None of you will ever understand me,” Williams laments before busting into woo-oo-oos on the garage-popping “Lunge Forward.” Welcome to your mid-20s, Nathan. Don’t worry: It gets better.
Afraid Of Heights is out March 26 on Mom And Pop. Stream it below.
