After dedicating much of his time to recording Born Ruffians’ third album as well as playing at CMJ 2012, vocalist/guitarist Luke Lalonde’s debut solo album, Rhythymnals, is finally available via streaming on Lalonde’s Soundcloud. For the dedicated fans awaiting the actual album release, Rhythymnals drops next week on October 30 on Paper Bag. Check it out below.

Having recorded the album over the span of 2010 to spring 2012, the time frame offered Lalonde the opportunity to experiment with various techniques and sounds to include on the album. Taking cues from his work with Born Ruffians’ sophomore album, What To Say, Lalonde incorporates electronic samples to accompany the acoustic instrumental sounds, all the while retaining his witty lyricism. The tracks, however, express more melodic, full-bodied compositions in comparison to those of Born Ruffians. Highlights of the album include the “Undone,” with its fast, synth-heavy electronics against acoustic strumming, as well as the calming melancholic narrative “My Friend Archibald [R.I.P.].” With Born Ruffians set to release their third album in early 2013, Lalonde’s Rhythymnals will help hold fans over until then.
