Brooklyn Bowl—having become one of NYC’s favorite midsize venues since it opened circa 2009—joined with Okayafrica to present “Felabration 2013.” Ostensibly a celebration of what would have been Fela Kuti’s 75th birthday, the music spread out into many exotic musical corners throughout the night, and the crowd responded with a friendly “one world” vibe. Bajah and the Dry Eye Crew got everyone in the groove. But Sahr Ngaujah (from FELA! The Musical) really stole the show. Crowd members were literally screaming with delight. Sahr even pulled dancers on stage, formed a dance circle in the middle of the crowd, and generally lit up the room. Questlove took over the DJ duties, spinning away into the wee hours.
