Backed by synths, a drummer and percussionist, SBTRKT, aka Aaron Jerome, mesmerized Oakland’s Fox Theater playing hits off his brand new album, Wonder Where We Land, while incorporating well-known faves such as Wildfire, Never Never, Hold On and a remix of Radiohead’s Lotus Flower. Though special guest vocals from the likes of Little Dragon, Sampha and Ezra Koenig did not materialize, SBTRKT engaged the crowd with his live beat mixing and mashing of tribal electronica. His lighting and visuals cast an electronic haze over a packed house as the audience head-bobbed to each beat in delight. SBTRKT may have no lead vocalist, but Aaron Jerome is definitely a master of compositing beats on the fly, which was apparently more than enough to captivate the Oakland crowd.

Opening for SBTRKT was Washington, D.C.’s GoldLink who dropped some excellent lyricism and got the crowd pumped as he performed tracks off his EP, The God Complex.
