The fourth annual Roe On The Rocks benefit concert will take place April 4 at the Bowery Ballroom, featuring Thao With The Get Down Stay Down, Ana Egge and the Bloodsugars. The concert is held each year to recognize the landmark court case Roe v. Wade, this year being the 38th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision to uphold a woman’s right to privacy and choice. All proceeds from the event are donated to Planned Parenthood Of New York City.

Virginia’s Thao With The Get Down Stay Down has released two albums in the past three years, 2008’s We Brave Bee Stings And All followed up by 2009’s Know Better Learn Faster, both through Kill Rock Stars. Lead singer and guitarist Thao has since branched out to a solo project as well as a collaboration in Thao And Mira, whose debut, self-titled album arrives April 26. She is currently performing with the Get Down Stay Down at SXSW before heading back to New York for the April show at the Bowery.

Brooklyn’s indie-folk/country songstress Ana Egge got her start in 1997 with the release of River Under The Road (Lazy Sob), which earned Egge Austin Music Awards as “Best Singer-Songwriter” and “Best Folk Artist.” Five albums later, Egge continues to write deeply personal songs, with her most recent release, Road To My Love (Red Distribution), going even deeper into Egge’s own life experiences.

Fellow Brooklyn band the Bloodsugars started when frontman Jason Rabinowitz and keyboardist Matt Katz met in college, making and listening to music together in their dorm rooms. When bassist Brendan O’Grady and drummer Kenneth Salters joined the lineup, the band’s sound became complete, mixing modern indie rock and ’80s pop, and reflecting influences like the Clash, Of Montreal and Elvis Costello. After the success of its 2008 release, BQEP, the Bloodsugars released its sophomore album, I Can’t Go On, I’ll Go On (Engine Room), in 2009 and is currently working on three EPs of bonus material.

The Roe On The Rocks show will open its doors at 7 p.m. April 4, and more special guests will be announced soon.
