We are sad to report that Beastie Boy Adam “MCA” Yauch’s death has been confirmed by Rolling Stone. The MC, who had spent three decades shaping and re-defining hip-hop as one-third of the legendary rap trio, was diagnosed with cancer of the parotid gland in 2009, which he publicly addressed in a YouTube video that year. He was 47.
Yauch’s contribution to modern music and his philanthropic efforts—he was a driving force in the organization of the Tibetan Freedom concert series—will resonate for decades to come. Although Yauch was unable to be present for the ceremony, the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame last month. Some of our (innumerable) favorite Beastie Boys videos, including their Hello Nasty infomercial and the star-studded “Fight For Your Right” tribute, are below.
