Red Fang has come a long way from laying the smack down on LARPers. The band released its self-titled debut album in 2009 and just put out its sophomore effort, Murder The Mountains (Relapse), this past spring. Now the guys will open for Mastodon along with Dillinger Escape Plan for 24 shows in the U.S. and Canada. They’re also putting out “Black Hole,” a Mountains B-side, on their Facebook page along with a video for the track. This video embraces the same spirit as Red Fang’s last video, “Prehistoric Dog,” only this time the beards are bigger, the beers more abundant and the humor a nice throwback to the early Jackass era, when watching a bunch of guys turn a station-wagon into a battering ram was good old-fashioned fun. Comedian and metal-head Brian Posehn even makes a cameo.

Metal remains something of a niche market, but this Portland, OR, foursome will appeal to even those listeners that think “Megadeth” is just too scary a name for a band. Whether you’re a huge metal fan or looking to dip your feet in a new genre, Red Fang is hardly a bad place to start. Check below for tour dates.
