Mike Hadreas, aka Perfume Genius, put out one of our favorite albums of the year in 2012 with his sophomore LP, Put Your Back N 2 It, and now he’s finally back with a follow-up. It’s called Too Bright, and it’s out at the end of September on Matador. The album’s first single, Queen, sounds less like the isolated, shyly personal music of Perfume Genuis’ past, and more like a bold anthem of self-acceptance (The line “No family is safe when I sashay” is maybe a nod to Google rejecting his 2012 promo video as “not family safe”). Agitated guitars volley with equal aggression against choir-like harmonies and a gruff, barking dog-esque sample. Listen to the song below and check out the Too Bright tracklist after that.
