Pelican, the post-metal instrumental quartet from Chicago, has announced a west coast tour this summer. The live dates bring the members of the band back together from a long-lived hiatus that sprouted side projects and speculation about the band’s future.
Pelican falls under more than one category, resting somewhere between post-rock traditions, stoner and sludge metal, and progressive rock. Known for dense melodies and extensive track lengths, the band unfolded its prime talent on 2009’s What We All Come From, a landmark album by the band. The lack of a lead vocalist helps blur the genre within which Pelican operates, distancing it from a typical metal band and transitioning into a distinctive sound that became the conceptual trademark for Pelican.
The band is heading to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Diego and Portland in addition to many other west coast cities before appearing at the Boomslang Festival in Kentucky and Power Of The Riff festival at various venues in California.
