The 84th Academy Awards took place last night and brought you all the dresses, nip slips and acceptance speeches you could handle. The evening also had a couple of musical highlights. Past CMJ chart-topper Esperanza Spalding performed an entrancing rendition of Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World” during the In Memoriam tribute. Spalding was backed by the Southern California Children’s Choir as clips of those who passed away played in the background. The In Memoriam honored stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Whitney Houston, Steve Jobs and Jane Russell among others.
Bret McKenzie, one-half of the Grammy Award-winning Flight Of The Conchords, won Best Original Song for “Man Or Muppet” from The Muppets movie. McKenzie was musical supervisor for The Muppets and wrote three songs in all for the film.
Watch the music video for “Man Or Muppet” below as performed by Kermit The Frog and Jason Segel.
