In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week, Noise Figures gives us the scoop on Athens, Greece. Their self-titled debut LP is out now via Inner Ear Records.
Welcome to Athens! The other city that never sleeps. Every night you have plenty of choices and events to attend from more than 1000 DJs and local bands. It seems that our city is in the eye of the international press due to the huge economic crisis, but this hasn’t overshadowed the local music scene. On the contrary, bands are very active with more releases in the last few years than ever, even DIY releases. Lots of gigs and events are also going on. Over the last years there has been a huge boom in the garage/kraut/psych scene. Bands from San Francisco, Austin, etc. are selling out venues (Growlers, Black Angels, Ty Segall) and really active Greek bands are emerging. The presence of indie labels like Inner Ear, Restless Wind and Sound of Everything have surely been a very positive factor too.
