Grammy nominee, New Pornographer and indie-boy heart-stealer Neko Case will be giving away her ’67 Mercury Cougar—you know, the hot car on which she sits poised to strike on the cover of 2009’s Middle Cyclone (below)—to one lucky winner in an online raffle benefiting the literacy charity 826 National.
The winner of Ms. Case’s Cougar will also drive away with a “road trip” themed car full of swag including Rand McNally guides, gift certificates to Chipotle, a year’s supply of Tazo Tea and other goodies.
The online raffle, loving called the Mercury Cougar-Rama Muscle Car-‘Splosion, will also award five additional winners, who will take home the Anti- catalog of records, a 60-disc Matador sampler, Poketo’s Road Trip prize pack, a drum head signed by Case and her fellow New Pornographers, Neko’s limited-edition 1966 Gretsch Silver Duke guitar, a Gibson guitar signed by members of the Speaking Clock Revue including Elton John, Elvis Costello, Dr. Ralph Stanley, Leon Russell and T Bone Burnett and more.
826 National, which has free-of-charge writing centers in eight US cities, was co-founded by two award-winning philanthropists: educator Nínive Calegari and author Dave Eggers. More information and raffle tickets can be found on Case’s website.
