As per the Mountain Goatshigher standards, we bring you the news that the indie folk-rock outfit led by John Darnielle will be kicking off the New Year with a U.S. tour. The Goats is currently wrapping up 2011 with a few “solo sets for charity,” but before long Darnielle and his cohorts will be back to playing live for the right reasons—partyin’, makin’ dollas, shameless self-hype and groupies.
The Goats plans to hit cities the band’s 2011 tour missed as well as a few special gigs, including the Ecstatic Music Festival and an event in honor of the Rolling Stones at Carnegie Hall in March. On the band’s homepage, the Mountain Goats posted that “the American South in January is evidence that the universe loves us deeply and holds an abiding concern for our pleasure and well-being.” In other words, the Mountain Goats is going on tour, lol.
