New Jersey-based beat-master !llmind has announced the release of his first solo album, Beh!nd The Curta!n, slated for April 21 on Nature Sounds. The first thousand physical and Bandcamp-distributed copies will include a download option for the album’s audio stems, which are the separate instrument parts of each track (bass parts, drum parts, synth parts, horns, etc.). The stems from the upcoming album’s track “Next Round” are going to be used for a remix contest. The producer who makes the most original beat using only the stems provided will receive a $100-credit for the Nature Sounds store. An added incentive is that all beats will be judged by !llmind himself.
!llmind started making beats at 13, stealing records out of his dad’s crate of Filipino jazz. After such humble beginnings, he has gone on to produce for the likes of Redman, 2Pac, Little Brother and Eminem while also becoming G-Unit’s resident beat maker. !llmind hopes that the beat contest will inspire and educate young artists like he was by giving them the tools necessary to start the creative process. The stems project won’t be his first foray into the teaching world. He has also been teaching the class “Future Music Moguls” at NYU’s Clive Davis Department Of Recorded Music for some time now.
No tracklist for Beh!nd The Curta!n has been announced yet.
