After releasing the typically dread-soaked and lovelorn “Demons,” Brooklyn art-rock mainstays of the National are back again with another new song off their upcoming album, Trouble Will Find Me, which comes out May 21 via 4AD.
Like “Demons,” the new song, “Don’t Swallow The Cap,” is a fairly typical late-period National song—ominous lyrics, Matt Berninger’s mopey vocals, all those subtle orchestral touches—but that’s not a bad thing. The big difference here is that “Cap” is a more piano-driven track, a little less propulsive than “Demons.” Dont worry: Berninger sounds just as bummed as usual, giving a wounded lilt to lines like, “Everything I love is on the table/Everything I love is out to sea.” Check out the song below.
