After a four year hiatus, Chicago’s experimental rock outfit Califone are set to follow up to 2009’s critically acclaimed All My Friends Are Funeral Singers, with new a LP, Stitches, due September 3 via Dead Oceans.
To whet our palettes, Califone have unveiled Stitches‘ smooth and sobering title track. Steadied by sixteenth notes, the track gallops slowly but confidently through its droning terrain. What can’t help but raise eyebrows is the new-found emphasis the band has placed on its frontman, Tim Rutili, and his baritone vocals. Stitches is fairly simplistic, relying primarily on Rutili to deliver, which he does without effort. Assuming the LP follows suit with its title track, we anticipate a more personal, heartfelt record. Check out Califone’s upcoming tour dates, along with the album tracklist and title track, below.
