Though he doesn’t have an officially distributed EP out for public consumption, Sampha has been on the outskirts of various music scenes for years. In a recent Pitchfork interview he stated he’s “more comfortable with the idea of showing the world what I do by myself.” That brings us to his forthcoming Dual EP for Young Turks. The six track EP features “Indecision,” which has been floating around the Internet for well over a year, and five previously unheard songs including “Without.” “Without” puts both sides of Sampha on display: his captivating voice, which can be compared to Peven Everett, and his wispy yet solid talents behind the boards.
As one half of Short Stories with UK producer Koreless he lets his production abilities take the forefront. Countering that is his work with SBTRKT and Jessie Ware; he spent over a year on tour with the former and exposed his voice with the latter on 2011’s “Valentine.” Sampha’s Dual EP is available on July 29 on Young Turks.
