The riotous hardcore of Pissed Jeans can be uninviting to the uninitiated, its seething contempt and abrasive tone serving as a warning and a threat. But on the band’s newest track, “Cathouse,” the Pennsylvania punk four-piece offers an olive branch to nervous but curious listeners. Unlike the bile-filled, suburban-ennui-depicting first single, “Bathroom Laughter,” the new track off the band’s upcoming Sub-Pop release, Honeys, is a welcoming bit of rage.
Though much of the song get’s by on throbbing, dissonant energy, there’s a moment towards the end of “Cathouse” when the track’s throttling, bracing rhythm pauses for a moment, letting a wildly expressive and kinetic guitar solo slip into the mix like a well-dressed party-crasher. “Every cathouse is the same,” cries Matt Korvette at one point, and while he may be right in a broader sense, this “Cathouse” is plenty unique. Check it out, along with some Pissed Jeans tour dates, below.
Honeys arrives February 12 via Sub-Pop.
