After announcing the release of its fifth LP, Bankrupt!, due out April 23, Phoenix has let loose the record’s poppy opening track, “Entertainment.”
The new track is a speedy, synth-driven dance number that hooks you in from the get-go with a chintzy, candy-colored melody. Interestingly, as we learned from the New Yorker (via Pitchfork), the track, and the rest of the album, was mixed on the same Harrison 4032 recording console that was used to make Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Guitarist Laurent Brancowitz purchased it off of eBay, so keep your ears peeled for that magic ’80s pop touch.
