George Clanton, the brain behind Mirror Kisses, is following up last year’s excellent, future nostalgia LP, Heartbeats, with an EP of uncertain name. That EP’s first single, Bleed, is here. Like much of Heartbeats, there’s a crushing intensity to this song. At first, it fizzles beneath the surface, tensing each time Clanton sings, “Someone else can make you happy…but not like I do/Not like me,” storing up momentum until the halfway point, when it clobbers you over the head with full, fleshy vocals and pulse-quickening synths. It’s the musical equivalent of soft-serve brain freeze—which is a great thing. If you’re in NYC, you can catch Mirror Kisses at the Bowery Electric on Wednesday. Listen to Bleed below.
