Majical Cloudz have just released a new stomach-knotting track, Savage. I saw the duo perform this live in September, and the room got so quiet when they started to play that I could hear the dude next to me breathing in short, surprised bursts. It wasn’t an unusual reaction though. Savage is even darker than many tracks on Majical Cloudz’s loss-of-innonce LP, Impersonator. As wind-strewn vocals and pulsating beats quicken in the background, Devon Welsh’s pained baritone moves with a moody pattern of acceptance, regret and despair. On the group’s SoundCloud (or is it SoundCloudz?), Welsh says Savage is “about letting go of a relationship as it changes, and the emotions that go along with that.” Listen in below.
