king gizzard
Australian psych rock collective King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard is already a lock to freak us out at this year’s CMJ Music Marathon. The band is also set to release their LP I’m Your Mind Fuzz on (Thee Oh Sees frontman) John Dwyer’s label Castle Face on November 11. Today, King Gizzard dropped the album’s lead single, Cellophane. The track is a manic burst of psychedelic fervor. A pulsating bassline repeats beneath a barrage of dueling guitar leads, bullet-mic harmonica and out-there, chorus-effect vocals. It’s a garage rock tune on par with the best paranoid jams, and its abrupt ending likely means that it segues directly into another killer track.

In addition to playing CMJ 2014, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard are due to tour the U.S. with some other big names. Scheduled so far are tour dates with White Fence and Juan Wauters, culminating in an epic show at Manhattan’s Terminal 5 opening for Mac DeMarco. Listen to Cellopane (via Stereogum) below.
