Other than a few one-off collaborations (the smooth, catchy Want It with Tink and the flush, bass-y Melba’s Call with Bok Bok), we haven’t heard much recently from Fade To Mind affiliate Kelela. That changes now. The L.A. singer just announced that her currently untitled debut LP, the follow-up to last year’s excellent Cut 4 Me mixtape, will drop next spring.
There’s also this new track, OICU, with the fire-and-glitter-tongued rapper Le1f, which may or may not be on the album. Producer P. Morris fogs things up so Le1f sounds Benadryl sleepy punctuated by bouts of breathless wordplay and whaling sighs. Kelela sounds as easily bold as ever, playing with the mania of Le1f’s cadence in a way that’ll remind you that all these collaborations work for her. Listen below.
