Junip, the full-band project of hushed singer José González, Elias Araya and Tobias Winterkorn, will release its self-titled album, a follow-up to 2010’s Fields, on April 23 via Mute. But today the group has released the record’s first single, “Line Of Fire,” and it’s a sweeping, invigorating slice of chamber-rock bliss.
Building over a lightly picked guitar part and some softly growing flutes, the song slowly conjures a smoky, mystery-packed sense of creeping discomfort before transitioning into a triumphant string-filled finale. It’s the type of swirling art-pop that goes down easy but still manages to leave a bruise. Check out the track and a teaser trailer for the album below.
