There’s a lot happening in the world of the late J Dilla right now. At the end of last month, De La Soul dropped their Smell The D.A.I.S.Y. mixtape, which used only J Dilla beats. This past summer we heard cuts from his Diamonds & Ice EP, which featured material from the much-anticipated LP, The Diary, a collection of unreleased Jay Dee tracks from the early 2000s.
Now, another piece of The Diary puzzle is filled in with Give Em What They Want, a vocal track off the upcoming Give Em What They Want EP, out as a 12-inch on May 6 via the Pay Jay imprint. The EP features three vocal tracks recorded in 2001 from Dilla and Supa Dave West. For now, we’ve got the title track. It’s a growling and smooth stunner that’s both exciting and feverishly taunting, because we know it was recorded more than a decade ago. Listen below.
