March 25 will see the release of The Upsetter: The Life And Music Of Lee “Scratch” Perry, a documentary about the influential reggae producer and musician. Directed by Ethan Higbee and Alan Bhala Lough, The Upsetter is a look at Perry’s life, which settled comfortably into “eccentric” and toed the line into “nuts.” The film is narrated by Academy Award-winning actor Benicio Del Toro for that extra gravitas.

Perry was born in Jamaica, and was instrumental in crafting the sound of dub in the ’70s, recording artists such as Bob Marley in his home studio, the Black Ark. The musician has remained active over the years and has produced tracks by artists as diverse as Paul McCartney and the Clash.

The Upsetter will premiere on March 25 in Los Angeles’ the Downtown Independent and will travel to select American cities over the following month. Perry himself remarked coherently, “Hallo to you my Peeples out there this is my movie of the Past AND the Present….Enjoy it God Bless it Lee $cratch Perry Vi$$ions.” Higbee is also directing a documentary of controversial rapper Lil B titled Basedworld.
