Proto-punk legends Iggy And The Stooges have announced that their new album, Ready To Die, will be released April 30 via Fat Possum. The record will be the group’s first of all-new material in 40 years with guitarist James Williamson and drummer Scott “Rock Action” Asheton, creating the closest thing to a Raw Power-era Stooges with punk legend Mike Watt continuing to fill in on bass for the deceased Ron Asheton.
Discussing the new album in an interview embedded below, Pop said, “My motivation in making any record with the group at this point is no longer personal. It’s just a pig-headed fucking thing I have that a real fucking group, when they’re an older group, they also make fucking records. They don’t just go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of fucking money.” He then proceeds to take some historically confused, but probably still fair, jabs at his viewed foil Billy Corgan (“the bald guy”) and his Smashing Pumpkins recreations over the years.
Also, in a short album preview, you can see Iggy dressing up as a scarecrow and get a taste of what’s to come. Hint: It sounds pretty gritty.
