Heavy Trash, Jon Spencer’s gonzoabilly band, got Spencer back in fighting shape after the Blues Explosion first imploded in the early 2000s. But then the Blues Explosion started up again a few years ago, culminating in the excellently bruising Meat + Bone in 2012. Plus Matt Verta-Ray, the other half of the Heavy Trash two-headed honcho, has been busy recording bands at his Manhattan studio. So you kind of figured Heavy Trash was cashed.
But surprise surprise, they just announced some tour dates in celebration of their 10 years of yowling. Canadian one-man slammer, Bloodshot Bill, has been one of the few contemporary rockabilly-ists to match Heavy Trash in the wild department, so it makes perfect sense he should not only be the opening act for this northeast jaunt, but will play in the latest Heavy Trash lineup too. Check the tour dates below.
Seeing as how both acts like to limit their lineups, we thought it’d be interesting to see if Bloodshot Bill gets out of his one-man zone when he’s kicking back at home in front of the stereo.
Bloodshot Bill’s 10 Favorite Bands With More Than Five Members
You mean a band with at least six members? Geez, that is too many people! Most bands I like don’t have that many folks in them, maybe five tops (Sonics, etc.), but it usually just gets too cluttered after that for my taste. I don’t even think I can name 10:
Little Richard & the Upsetters
Sun Ra Arkestra
King Khan & The Shrines
Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps
Town Hall Party house band
