The Fiery Furnaces, aka the sibling duo of guitarist Matthew and singer Eleanor Friedberger, play jumpy garage pop on record, but the band is known for its improvised and unique live shows, which are always different from the last by design. The band has a fun time mixing and melding its huge catalog for its own amusement. Well… guess who is going on tour! The Fiery Furnaces duo is visiting quite a few US cities this May, including double-headers in New York, Chicago, and Austin. The difference here is that Matt is going to be on piano (with a bit of singing) and Eleanor on vocals, and there’s going to be a “karaoke interlude,” which should be quite interesting given the cultish nature of Fiery Furnaces fans.
The notoriously prolific band is working on its tenth album, whereas Matthew is still blazing through his solo work, an album series titled Solos in which he only uses one instrument for the whole record. Matthew’s newest LP is titled Old Regimes, and comes out in May. He uses a vintage 1907 harp. Your move, Jack White.
