If you have half an hour or even three minutes you might want to Youtube the name Beardyman. With over 77,000 Youtube subscribers and sold-out shows around the world, he has turned a late-’80s street corner hobby into a career his mother would be proud of.
Born and raised in London, Beardyman received his distinctive name when promotional material needed to be created for a show he was in. He was nameless. He had a beard. Thus, Beardyman seemed fitting. By using Korg Kaoss Pad 3 to loop his vocals, he was able to create a unique style and take his place as beatboxing royalty by becoming the 2006 and 2007 U.K. Beatbox Champion. (He subsequently sat as a judge in 2008—how’s that for a come up).
Beardyman’s talents have allowed him to perform all over the world, and come Labor Day weekend, he will grace the stage of Electric Zoo. On Saturday, September 3, headlined by David Guetta, Beardyman will electrify Randall’s Island Park for the first time at the Red Bull Riverside Stage, alongside acts including Skrillex and Super Mash Bros. Sure to perform some cuts off his new album I Done A Album that was released in March earlier this year, consider this a must-see show.
[Here’s a hint if you want to see him: enter our competition to win a pair of three-day passes. You’ve got about six hours to do it (entries close 5 p.m. today), so jump to – Ed.]
