Boston post-rock group, Eksi Ekso (formerly On Fire) is hitting the road this summer to promote its new record, Brown Shark, Red Lion. The band has undergone major changes since 2008’s I Am Your Bastard Wings when three of Eksi Ekso’s original six members left the band. While the split was amicable, it provided the remaining members of Eksi Ekso the freedom to branch out musically without the sometimes-burdensome inertia of a large band. Guitarist and vocalist Tom Korkidis explains to CMJ that he and the band have “more freedom to do and try things we couldn’t squeeze through the democratic process before.” Brown Shark, Red Lion showcases a more playful Eksi Ekso with vocals taking a more prominent lead.

Eksi Ekso is hitting the road at the end of May. Presently, five shows are scheduled with more U.S. dates coming in June and July. Audiences can expect a different kind of live performance from the band. While the previous incarnation of Eksi Ekso projected a very specific spacey vibe, this new upbeat Eksi Ekso is playing with various styles and shifting tones. Korkidis sums up Eksi Ekso’s new live format quite eloquently: “In general we’re having a lot of fun playing these songs live, watching people move and react … where before they may have been crying in their beer.”

Brown Shark, Red Lion is out now on iTunes via the Mylene Sheath. Click here to stream the new song “Carte De Visite,” and check below for the band’s scheduled dates.
