San Francisco rapper DaVinci released his second LP today, The MOEna Lisa, as a free download and stream at SWTBRDS. Following 2010’s The Day The Turf Stood Still and last year’s Feast Or Famine EP, this LP serves as the final chapter in a trilogy of albums dedicated to the Fillmore District of San Francisco where DaVinci was raised. There are no gimmicks to his music. The Bay Area MC sticks to his tried-and-true recipe of classic beats, dry rap vocals and somber lyrics. Freddie Gibbs and the Jacka are guests on The MOEna Lisa, which features production by Al Jieh, Ammbush (of Drums And Ammo), Merk, Blunt, Champagne Clique, Keyes and Block Beattaz.
Listen to it below, and read through DaVinci’s own explanation of the album.
This album is dedicated to a young Thorobred in heaven, Lil D. You kept askin me when this album was finna drop and it’s finally here. Im still devastated That yo time on earth with us was so short, barely even 15 years. I never got a chance to tell you brah but you had a impact on my life big enough to really wake my game up. Yo hunger to live life to the fullest was like no other my nigga. You wouldnt let me leave the spot without asking a million questions about street shit or rap shit. Lol. I definitely wish I could have been more hands on with giving you advice more often too. You a big part of the reason for the message in my songs. After i heard you was gone I wanted to fall back from the mic and just say fuk it. It wasnt til i thought about how much you admired the opportunity I have to rap and i started to feel ungrateful and selfish. Fuk that, I’ma go hard for my nigga and always keep that resiliant spirit you had alive. This Album is dedicated to you! Tell everybody else we lost we gon see em on the other side! Love you Lil brah.
